License ClassesTop ↑

Nevada license classes, common endorsements and common restrictions are listed below. Nevada does not issue any type of Chauffeur or other special license. However, taxi drivers in Clark County must get a permit from the Nevada Taxicab Authority.

Class A

Combination vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, with a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, provided the vehicle being towed has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,001 pounds or more. See the Commercial Driver Handbook.

Class B

Single vehicles with a weight (GVWR) of 26,001 or more pounds; the operator may tow a vehicle weighing 10,000 pounds GVWR or less. See the Commercial Driver Handbook.

Class C

Cars, vans, pickups, mopeds, and other vehicles with a weight (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less; allows towing of a vehicle with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less. Class C license holders may tow a combination of vehicles not to exceed 70 feet in length. If the GVWR of the towed vehicles exceeds 10,000 pounds, an Endorsement J is required.

Class M

Motorcycles. If you drive a motorcycle and a Class A, B, or C vehicle, your license will show both classes, provided you have met all other requirements. See Motorcycles, Mopeds & Bicycles, Motorcycle Skills Test and the Motorcycle Handbook.

Non-Commercial Class A & B, Endorsement J

RV, boat and trailer owners need a Class A or B license to drive vehicles 26,001 pounds or heavier. An Endorsement J is needed to tow a vehicle over 10,000 GVWR. If the combination of the towing vehicle and the towed vehicle(s) exceed 26,001 pounds, a Class A license is required.

Additional written and skills tests are required. For further information regarding the tests, license classes and Endorsement J, see the Non-Commercial Class A & B, J Endorsement Study Guide.

Endorsement F

Firefighters, farmers and military members who drive non-commercial heavy equipment. This endorsement is a limited exemption from commercial licensing requirements.

Restriction B

Must wear corrective eye lenses (glasses or contacts). See Testing.

Nevada restriction codes are changing! The letter designating your restriction may change the next time you receive a new license. See the Restriction Code Matrix.

Restriction J

Two-letter restrictions beginning with the letter J are issued in a variety of circumstances such as driving only on a specific route, during specific hours or only a certain type of vehicle. The specifics will be listed on the back of the license or in an official statement the motorist must carry. See the Restriction Code Matrix or NAC Chapter 483 for complete lists of restrictions.

Veterans Tax ExemptionsTop ↑

Drivers action nevada w7h series 2018

Nevada grants tax exemptions for many veterans.

Drivers Action Nevada W7h Series 2019

Veterans with certain dates of service are eligible for a partial governmental services tax exemption. See Nevada Revised Statute 371.103 for the specific dates.

You must present your DD-214 or discharge papers at your local County Assessor office. The Assessor will determine the amount of the exemption and issue a receipt which you submit at the same time you register your vehicle or renew. The exemption cannot be applied after the registration or renewal is completed.

Disabled veterans are eligible for exemptions based on the percentage of disability. These are also granted through your local County Assessor.

Veterans can designate part or all of their exemption to be used for support of Nevada Veterans Homes. Complete the Designation of Use for Veterans Exemption (VP 187) and present it with the exemption certificate when you register your vehicle or renew.

A veterans exemption may be transferred to the veteran's spouse. Proof of marriage is required. Complete the Affidavit for Transfer of Exemption to Spouse (VP 259) and present it with the exemption certificate when you register your vehicle or renew.

These exemptions apply to the governmental services taxes on your vehicle registration and are separate from sales taxes and other fees. Sales taxes must be paid on vehicle purchases.

Drivers Action Nevada W7h Series Final

Active duty military members in combat or combat support roles may request an exemption from registration late fees using the Active Duty Military Combat Affidavit (VP 258).

For more information on veterans' benefits, see the Nevada Department of Veterans Services and the Nevada Revised Statutes Index under Veterans.
